Good Evening! I’m Riski Sanda Aniendita from Sekilas Berita. News from Central Java, Ndirun Hamlet at the Singamerta village, Banjarnegara regency, Central Java will make Durian lovers excited and very happy. Because from March 25 to 26 is coming to the annual Durian Ndirun Festival. The regency’s Tourism and Cultural Agency marketing head, Widi Anggoro Asih, said that the festival is part of the residents’ effort to increase the potential of the local durian industry. He also said that for this year’s festival, Ndirun Hamlet will also give away free durian, as well as hold a durian auction and art performances. The native variety of Banjarnegara is durian montong said Widhy. Singamerta village is located around 71 kilometers from the Purwokerto train station. Interested tourists can reach the village using available modes of transportation heading to Banjarnegara or Wonosobo. Thank you stay in and good bye. See you again in an hour.

This article reports on the results of a study concerning the type and their features produced by a student after using mobile technology as a support to improve the development of the students’ writing skills in a second language. It is done to find out the student’s writing during a period of eight-week course, which was then complemented with an interview conducted by the researcher. The researcher uses mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) in this study. The subject of this study is the 19-years-old freshman an International Relation student from Universidad del Norte, Colombia. And the results of this study reveal that the genre approach to increase writing abilities with the support of mobile technology might generate positive results because the participant optimized the quality of the texts she produced in a short period of time.

This study is to find out how social media, in this case Facebook, can be incorporated in ELT through e-dialogue journal writing shared in a Facebook closed group. This study used qualitative as method. The participants of this study are 15 EFL students in second, third and fourth students of English Education Department of a university in Bandung who voluntarily joined a Facebook closed group for about 4 months and contributed their journal entries. And the findings indicate that the students responded positively to this activity and perceived improvement in their writing especially in vocabulary and grammar.

This article is to present evidence that intensive reading along which is not only way nor the most effective approach to learn and acquire vocabulary in a second language. It is also to present substantial evidence based on research conducted in class by highly recognized authorities in the field of second language learning that different explicit strategies for teaching vocabulary can enhance the vocabulary range on English Language Learners. This research used qualitative method. The result of this research is explicit teaching is effective in vocabulary learning, and teachers should not spouse to one approach or method only. Language teachers must be eclectic, and not limit themselves to one approach or method, but use all possible approaches, strategies and methods that are useful and can produce results to improve the students’ academic achievements.

This study is to describe the implementation of Form-Focused Instruction (FFI) strategy coupled with Corrective Feedback (CF) in Grammar lessons. It is used to improve the accuracy spoken English of kindergarten students in an international preschool in Surabaya. This study used Mixed Method (qualitative and quantitative) and Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. The participants in this study are 11 students aged 5-6 years old at Kindergarten 2 level of one intact class called Lavender Class of Pre-school X. The researcher manages them with divided into 4 groups. And the results showed that FFI and CF contributed to the improvement of the spoken grammar in varying degrees, depending on the academic performance, personality, and specific linguistic traits of the students. Students with high academic achievement could generally apply the grammar points taught after the FFI lessons in their daily speech. Students who were rather talkative were sensitive to the CF and could provide self-repair when prompted.

Those with lower academic performance generally did not benefit much from the FFI lessons nor the CF.

This article is to investigate an alternative testing protocol used in an undergraduate managerial accounting course. The researchers assert that consistent open-book testing approaches will enhance learning and better prepare students for the real-world decision-making they will encounter. This article used qualitative research method. The findings of this research are students taking open-book and closed-book pre-quizzes performed better on open-book final exams, but not other major exams and this research approach also revealed preliminary indications that their students value their textbooks more, and used them more frequently and extensively, to prepare for class using open-book testing protocols as opposed to using traditional closed-book testing procedures.

This article is to investigate the underlying discoursal functions of metaphors in terms of their contribution to the creation of discoursal coherence in literary text-type. The aim of this research is to illustrate in which was the metaphoric expressions used within a text are core elements and how they contribute to the development and elaboration of the topic of the text in literary text-type. The researcher used a poem written by Andrew Marvell with title “To His Coy Mistress”. The results of this research are metaphor being a necessary and core part of a text may contribute to fulfill different functions in different texts. In the case of literary texts, metaphors, in addition to fulfilling other functions, enhance the unity of the text and by doing so produce literary effect of the text.

This article is to consider the author relationship with the late Japanese writers’ book and literary legacy. It is caused by the recent release by Criterion on DVD of Paul Schrader’s film entitled Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985) and Mishima’s own film entitled Patriotism (1965). After the author’s famous suicide in 1970, he recalls his first discovery of Mishima’s existence shortly, reading and responding to his literary output, and prodding famous authors such as Tennessee Williams and Cormac McCarthy for their thoughts on Mishima’s influence. The author’s politics and virtually public suicide has changed his two poems about Mishima are included to illustrate his changing inner perceptions of the internationally famous writer and the (now-fading) adverse reaction to his work in Japan.

This article is to describe the Greek mythology presented in the novel, the intention of Rick Riordan, and the reception of the readers. This research studies Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The novel is about the adventure of Percy Jackson’s quest to return back Zeus’ thunder bolt which is stolen by Luke. In the quest he encounters many monsters from Greek mythology. The methodology is hermeneutic referring to Recoeur’s theory. The findings of this research are the Greek mythology presented in the novel is blended with American real life, the main character is a son of a Greek mythology god and a real American woman, the setting is a blend of places in Greek mythology and real American cities, the intention of Riordan is to open up American culture that is lived through by Americans that a part of American culture is Greek mythology, and the readers accept that the novel fulfills the readers’ horizon of expectation of aesthetic enjoyment and of the incorporation of Greek mythology into real American life.

The author shows Inanna’s connection to shamanic praxis and Gnostic mythology, and read Alette’s journey as a crisis vision, in order to argue for the existence of a shamanic poetics, a special way of using language as a healing medium and vehicle of myth.

This article is to discuss the tragic life of Faulkner’s Emily Grierson, a life dominated by patriarchy and traditional Southern social values. Her father who isolates Emily from the outside world and tortures her with traditional patriarchal rules and Southern family duty is the key of the tragedy. This study uses the Jungian concepts of archetypes, persona and shadow, anima and animus to interpret Emily’s transitions and her fall. This research used qualitative method and the object of this research is a short story entitled A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner. This research concludes Emily cannot escape from the rigorous traditional principles of the patriarchy although she is the last survivor of an aristocratic Southern family, but is regarded as a monument in memory of the social norms and standards formed by traditions and society.

The result of this research is the author argues that we have to remember that nature can be trampled, but not conquered. Nature gives birth to us human, and it is bound to have some sort of rules to constraint us. Any behavior destroying the whole harmonious ecological environment will be punished by the nature.

THE HUNGER GAMES

The Hunger Games is the first novel of trilogy novels written by American novelist Suzanne Collins. The story begins with the day of the reaping in District 12. Katniss Everdeen, the main character of this story, volunteer as tribute to change her younger sister, Primrose Everdeen, who is chosen as tribute from District 12. Every district in Panem, must send a girl and a boy in twelve-through eighteen-years-old as tributes in The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games given by the Capitol to make all of people in 12 District remember about the Dark Day which make the thirteenth District obliterated. Then, Peeta Mellark who ever help Katniss with gave her bread when she was looking for food for his family is selected as a boy tribute. They get a mentor who is from District 12 too but he is always drunk, his name is Haymitch. Haymitch’s guides make Katniss and Peeta as the victors of Seventy Fourth Hunger Games. Actually, the first rule is only one person as the winner but in this time they can be the winner because if both of us can’t be the victors, they can’t get the victors of Seventy Fourth Hunger Games.

This study focused on jargon meaning based on word-formation process. The aims of this study are to describe what the jargon used by judge, mentors, and hosts in Stand Up Comedy Academy, explain the meaning of jargon used by judges, mentors and hosts in there, and to describe the word-formation process of those jargon used by judges, mentors and hosts in there. This study has three problems statement, they are what jargon are used by judges, mentors and hosts in Stand Up Comedy Academy, what are the meaning of those jargon, and how is the word-formation process of those jargon. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative. The data taken from the recording competition of Stand Up Comedy Academy by media television. Before the researcher collecting and analyzing the data based on meaning and word-formation process, she made the transcript from the audio recording during the judges and mentors giving assessment to the contestant and the hosts when guide the show of Stand Up Comedy Academy. The finding of this study is the researcher found there are 40 special jargon used by judges, mentors, and hosts in Stand Up Comedy Academy. She found there are two (2) include that word coinage, such as Gerr to asses the comic. Fourteen (14) include borrowing word, such as explore, delivery, premis. Thirteen (13) compounding, such as gantung mic and ambil mic. Seven (7) word include conversion, such bomb and timing. One (1) word clipping, that is persona, and three (3) words include derivation such as mengeksekusi and tantangan.
